European noise regulation

11 / 14 / 2008

At October 2009, passenger replacement tires in Europe must meet the new European noise standards. (ECE-R 117) The tires which successfully pass this test, will have the S-symbol and approval number on the sidewall of the tires. (“S” stand for sound)

Schedule:

-< October 2009: all passenger tires with a section width of 185 or below (class C1, ECE-R 30)

-< October 2010; all passenger tires with a section width of 215 or below

-< October 2011; all passenger tires with a section width of 215 or above

INTERSTATE TIRES is pleased to announce that all tires in all lines (including the new SUV tires) have passed this test successfully.

We are now in the process of adjusting our molds and adding the “S”-symbol on the sidewall.  Most of the molds are already adjusted and we will finalize this process before the end of the year.

Please be aware that after October 2009, you are not allowed to buy/sell any tires within the EU, without this S-symbol.

If you need any additional information about this subject or any other subject, please contact our technical department.
